I've even had the pleasure of meeting them, and they're such cool guys. These are four guys that look like they love playing together, and seem genuinely thrilled to be playing for each and every crowd. Furthermore, in large venues they have the capacity to really get a good atmosphere going and before bands such as The Vaccines and Interpol they have really done their part. But all the times I have seen them, they still sound as good (if not better) than their records. But they are also not afraid to throw a bit of distortion into the mix and get the crowd moving! In large venues however, they do not disappoint.Īdmittedly, at festivals and large bills, every band isn't going to sound perfect due to the small amount of time they have to perfect the sound of each instrument. The contrast in their music really shows up here, they have some intricate clean riffs and basslines.
They fit in perfectly here and they make for a very listenable band. The few times I've seen them it's been in a more intimate setting.
They combine a rawness influenced by Sonic Youth, Pixies and Pavement with danceable beats with very heavy elements of surf music. There live show is brilliant sounding, as unique as the albums and expertly played but with a different twist encompassing their surroundings. Surfer Blood are one of the most exciting new (ish) bands around today. Released in June 2011 “Pythons” was produced by respected producer Gil Norton and once again earned favourable reviews from the musical press. and began working on their sophomore album. In early 2012 following an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Surfer Blood signed with Warner Bros. The band went on to open for the Pixies during their 2011 Doolittle Lost Cities Tour, after Pitts met the Pixies at an airport in New Zealand. In October 2011 Surfer Blood released the EP “Tarot Classics” on Kanine Records led by the single “Miranda”. Subsequently, the band performed at the 2010 SXSW NPR music party, the ATP music festival curated by Pavement, the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, as well as festivals in Australia and Tokyo. In early 2010, Kanine Records issued Surfer Blood’s debut album “Astro Coast” to resoundingly positive reviews from across the musical press. The band’s debut single “Swim” earned a huge amount of critical acclaim and was named the 37th best track of 2009 by Pitchfork. During the festival Surfer Blood performed 10 times, the success of which led to tours alongside Art Brut and Japandroids in late 2009. Surfer Blood’s buzz breakthrough came after playing Bruar Fall in Brooklyn in August 2009, a venue the band retuned to later in the year as a part of the CMJ Music Marathon. With a passion for indie-rock and nonstop touring, Surfer Blood, originally called Jabroni Sandwich, began recording demos in Pitt’s apartment and embarked on four tours within five months of being a group. Winter aspires to connect people to their inner child by making blissful, beautiful, dream pop, paired with dynamic and melodic shoegaze.Having honed their musical talents throughout high school, guitarist/vocalist John Paul Pitts and drummer Tyler Schwarz met guitarist Thomas Fekete, bassist Brain Black, and percussionist Marcos Marchesani at an after-party for the Ultra Music Festival. With a handful of releases in their catalog, including the critically acclaimed “Ethereality,” the (mostly) Brazilian album “Estrela Magica,” and the recent “Infinite Summer” EP, the band continues to write new material and tour both nationally and internationally. While living in Boston during her college years, she found a love for shoegaze which led to her collaboration with Nolan Eley who recorded and produced Winter's first EP "Daydreaming" and LP "Supreme Blue Dream." In 2013 Samira relocated to Los Angeles where the band currently resides. Samira grew up in Curitiba, Brazil listening to her American father's punk records, and her Brazilian mother's MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) tunes. Winter is the project of songwriter Samira Winter, who's love for guitar music and nostalgic imagery inspired the dream pop/indie rock four piece group. Surfer Blood are the cleanest and nicest band in existence. One of the best indie guitar bands around, founding members John Paul Pitts and Tyler Schwarz are joined by guitarist Michael McCleary and bassist Lindsey Mills, all four alumni of the same high school in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Surfer Blood's music is renowned for catchy hooks and sonic detail. Surfer Blood have just finished recording their 5th album, which will be coming out on May 1, 2020, alongside a 10th anniversary reissue of their debut album Astro Coast.
